Bay Area’s annual Autism Awareness Day in Novato welcomes Temple Grandin to the April 2nd event. Temple is an author, lecturer, professor, and expert on autism. Dr. Grandin will share her personal experience as an autistic woman and how the focus should be teaching people with autism to adapt to the social world around them, while still retaining the essence of who they are. Congressman Jared Huffman of San Rafael will show support for the good work that local programs provide for those with autism.
Bay Area Autism Awareness Day kicks off at 6pm with an Art Exhibit at NH2 Salon in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center. Local artists with autism and other complex learning differences will be featured. HopMonk Tavern, also in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center, will host the autism tree lighting ceremony at 7:30pm. Blue lights will shine bright every evening throughout the month of April to draw further awareness to autism.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Grandin join us and share her remarkable story of what is possible for those on the autism spectrum,” said Nicole Hitchcock, host, Bay Area Autism Awareness Day. Hitchcock continued, “We are grateful that Congressman Huffman will be sharing his personal thoughts, making this the most widely anticipated event in our three years of hosting this event.”
